Why Can't
Snacks Just Be
Honest?

Two friends since high school, one shared frustration with the snack aisle, and a business neither of them planned to start. This is how Honest Junk actually happened.

  1. 1995
Tina and Celine become friends in high school. No business plan in sight.
  2. October 2016
A conversation about the same old problem (healthy snacks that were expensive, hard to find, or just didn't taste good) becomes Honest Junk.

Ten years in, still asking the same question every time we build something new.
The Origin

Tina Lagdameo and Celine Gabriel-Lim have been friends since high school, around 1995, back when neither of them had any plans of starting a business together. Tina went on to run Plana Forma, one of Manila's most-loved fitness studios. Celine built a career in PR and communications, where she lived by one rule: say what's true, skip what isn't.

The business idea wasn't the plan. It came up the way most honest ideas do: in conversation, between two friends who kept running into the same problem. Healthy snacks were either impossible to find, absurdly expensive, or just didn't taste good. Twenty years of friendship, one shared frustration, and in October 2016, Honest Junk was born.

"The healthier options are so expensive. Instead of becoming diet staples, they become special treats. I really want to change this."

"In PR, you learn fast that people can tell when a brand is lying to them, even in small ways. I didn't want to build something I'd be embarrassed to explain honestly. If the label says 'superfood,' I want it to actually be one."

A healthy, happy lifestyle shouldn't be reserved for people who can afford it. It should be something anyone can actually live, and we should be the ones making that easier, not harder.

How We Actually Make Decisions

One Question,
Every Time

We start with the snacks we already love, then ask one question: how do we make this better without making it taste worse? That's the whole method. It's why our Cheese Barks are made with real cheese, not cheese flavouring, an easy shortcut we've never been willing to take. It's why malunggay shows up in our lineup instead of some imported "superfood" nobody's grandmother would recognise. And it's why, after years of listening to what customers actually wanted, we rebuilt our Super Gummies from scratch: vegan, gelatin-free and with no added sugar, without losing the Filipino fruit flavours people grew up on.

Proof 01

Real Cheese

Our Cheese Barks use actual cheese as the base, not flavouring standing in for the real thing.

Proof 02

Malunggay, Not Imported Hype

A superfood that grows all over the Philippines and barely gets any credit. It's in our Moringa Cheese Barks and our Sour Green Mango Super Gummies.

Proof 03

The Gummies, Rebuilt

Vegan, gelatin-free and with no added sugar, reformulated from scratch without losing the Filipino fruit flavours people grew up on.

Flavours That
Taste Like Home

Calamansi. Green mango. Pomelo. Dalandan. Malunggay, ginger and turmeric. Not picked because they're trendy, but because they actually taste like home.

Who This Is For

Honestly,
Probably You

For the Parent

Who wants their kid to have something fun without the guilt.

For the Purist

Who refuses to trade taste for "healthy."

For the Proud Filipino

Who wants local flavours done right.

For Everyone Else

Who's tired of choosing between a snack that's good for them and one that's actually good.

The right
kind of wrong.

That's Honest Junk. Not health food pretending to be a treat. Not junk food pretending to be healthy. Just honest, either way. Ten years later, the question hasn't changed. We're still asking it every time we build something new, the same way we've been asking each other questions since 1995.
